cameras that can detect metal objects?

I have a retail clothing store. All the clothing has sensors attached for security. Quite often we find sensors on the floor that have been tempered with and simply cut off by use of pliers. Are there cameras either hand held or otherwise that can see concealed metal objects like pliers?
I have also seen on the net goggles that can see through clothing. Are they effective?

One Response to “cameras that can detect metal objects?”

  1. 1) There are no goggles that can see through clothing. To see through clothing requires X-rays, or various backscatter devices, all of which are outside your price range and potentially dangerous.

    2) To see concealed metal objects, you’d need a metal detector. The sensitivity can be set fairly high so that a watch wouldn’t set it off, but someone with a dense set of pliers would. The problem is things like belt buckes, which can be pretty dense. And then you’d have to develop a policy for when it goes off. I think offending your customers will cost you more than the theft.

    3) Instead, for security purposes, besides the obvious sensor that gets cut off, add a second hidden sensor. That way, when someone cuts off the obvious sensor and tries to walk out, the second sensor will set off your theft prevention system.
