Are there any places that I could go to metal detect and find things from the civil war? Specific would be great. Like are there certain areas in Pennsylvania or Virginia?

Follow the civil war trails directory, that all towns in the area have. Look at the places where the encampments were, not at the battlefields. Anything found on a battlefield is government property, and if you take it, you could end up in jail.
